To avoid any confusion, let me first say that BREAST IS BEST. There is no other formula on earth that is a perfect match nutritionally for your baby other than breast milk. Many come close but none match up. This formula recipe was found on Youtube after a search for organic baby formula. I looked at multiple videos, compared the ingredients of them all and came up with what I found to be the safest, most nutrient dense recipe of them all. My son was exclusively breastfed the first 4 months of his life before I introduced this formula to him. I was looking for something a little thicker that would fill him up longer but would also offer him nutrients unlike other popular cereal formulas.

The main ingredients in this recipe are Seamoss and Bladderwack. Seamoss, also known as, Irish Moss is a seaweed that possess an extremely powerful source of vitamins and minerals. It actually has 92 of the 102 minerals that the body is made of. Bladderwack is also a nutrient dense seaweed with a high amount of iodine and other minerals. It is best known for regulating thyroids, reducing inflammation, cancer prevention, improved digestion, anti aging and heart health. These two mixed together create a powerhouse of nutrients that a growing child can greatly benefit from. And for all my Sebians they are both Dr. Sebi approved!
Cooked quinoa is also a staple of this formula. Not only does it help fill baby up and keep him fuller, longer, it contains more fiber and protein than other white or brown rice formulas. It also has naturally occurring iron instead of being fortified with synthetic, hard to digest, iron.
I mix this formula with my breast milk to ensure that baby is receiving all the nutrients he needs. This may be helpful if you have a low milk supply, you can stretch more milk by mixing this formula in. My son has had this formula exclusively (without any breast milk mixed in ) for about 2 days or so, but never long term so I cannot say how safe it would be to ONLY use this formula without supplementing with breast milk. Without further ado, here is the recipe!
Organic Homemade Baby Formula
1 cup cooked quinoa
1 Tbsp Seamoss/Bladderwack Powder Mix
Maple Syrup to taste (optional)
32oz Non- Flourinated Infant Water (may use spring water if preferred)

1.) Rinse quinoa until water is clear. Cook quinoa according to instructions (1 cup quinoa, 2 cups water), boil for 20-30 minutes or until soft and expanded.
2.)Pour cooked quinoa into blender, add Seamoss/Bladderwack mix, water and syrup. Blend until smooth.
*You may add or subtract the amount of water to your child's liking. I usually end up adding more water
* I add 3 ounces of formula to 5 ounces of breast milk (i have a big eater on my hands). It use to be 2ounces of formula to 3-4 ounces of breast milk. Find the perfect mixture that works for you and can fit through the nipple hole.
*Keep refrigerated
*mixture is more soupy when warm and thicker when cold.
As always, research and test for yourself. Every child is different and what works for mine may or may not work for yours (however, I swear by seamoss/bladderwack for anyone!). You can learn more about the benefits of Seamoss and Bladderwack from my blog post linked here! Contact if you're interested in purchasing Seamoss capsules for teens/adults as well!
Love as always,
Dom
Daniela Bowes. Thanks for you comment. However, I am not promoting the use of a homemade formula over breast milk, nor am I promoting its use alone. I am giving an option to mother's who do not trust store bought formula (with good reason) and want to supplement their breast milk (meaning mixing this with breast milk). When mixed with breast milk, the formula is not void of any nutrients. Being prepared in my own home, I am sure to properly clean all utensils and am knowledgeable about the origins in all ingredients being used. Unlike if I were to use a store bought formula. The post explains how this formula is used on my own son who is thriving…
