If I had to calculate how much money and time I spent trying to get clear skin, I would lose my mind. Like many people today, I have battled acne all throughout my teenage years and even into my early adulthood. Even after I transitioned into veganism, I still battled with acne! This infuriated me because one of the main reasons I went vegan was to get clear skin. Little did I know it would take more than just eliminating meat and dairy from my diet. This post will cover everything I did to clear my skin naturally. Keep in mind, I am not selling a magic product or a "one thing fixes all" approach. When it comes to healing naturally, mother nature never rushes, yet everything always gets done (I got that from my tea bag this morning).

1. I eliminated all chemicals from my skincare routine
If we look at acne from a holistic point of view, the skin is a mirror to what is going on in the body. Pimples or problematic skin is the bodies way of trying to rid itself of toxins. The worst thing you can do is lather your skin in products that are filled with more toxins and your body is trying to get rid of toxins. So the first thing I did was eliminate all chemicals from my skincare routine. These are the products I used.
African Black Soap
Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) mixed with Witch Hazel
Grapeseed oil
Almond oil
Lemon Essential Oil (EO) & Sandalwood EO
Aztec Indian Clay Mask mixed with Apple Cider Vinegar
I used the clay mask at least once a week. I washed my face with black soap morning and night, followed by toning with the ACV/witch hazel mix and lastly moisturized with an oil of my choice.
2. Went from junk food vegan to plant based diet
Initially I thought that as long as I didn't eat meat and diary, my skin would clear up. I ate lots of carbs, bread and junk food all in the name of being vegan. My skin cleared up some, but I still got the occasional breakout, still had dark-spots and my skin just looked dull overall. I finally came to the realization that I wasn't fueling my body with what it needed to thrive. I switched to a plant based diet in which I eat mostly whole foods and plants. Giving my body the nutrients it needed allowed my skin to really glow.
3. Stay hydrated!
People hate to hear that you have to drink water to have clear skin but this is the reality. I doubled my water intake and increased the amount of hydrating fruits and vegetables I ate. I ate plenty of watermelons, cucumbers, tomatoes and berries, all of which hydrate you on a cellular level.
4. Supplement! Supplement! Supplement!
No matter how many fruits and veggies you eat, due to our void soil in the U.S. we aren't getting all the nutrients we should be getting. This is why I promote supplementation so much. This ensures you aren't missing any important vitamins or minerals your body needs to thrive. These specific supplements seemed to help my skin a lot.
Seamoss
Spirulina
Rainbow Light One Prenatal

5. Heal with Herbs
Plants were put on earth to assist us in healing. This is why no matter what issue I have, I turn to the herbs. I drink them in tea form, tinctures or capsules. The following are great for skin.
Dandelion Root
Burdock
Hibiscus
Chamomile
Lavender
Rose
6. Cut the Stress
"There are actually stress receptors in your face! On the cells that produce sebum to be exact. So the more you stress the worst you are making it for yourself. Also, stress and immune function don't play nice so the more stress you are experiencing the weaker your immune system and the more likely those toxins will turn into breakouts." -@Herholisticpath
When healing anything the key is to be consistent. Consistency is key! Whether you are using an all natural regime or not, it takes about 2 months of consistency to start seeing results. Give yourself and mother nature time to heal you.
Happy Healing!
Love, Dom
