Going into a vitamin store can be the most confusing and intimidating task. There are so many different vitamins and you essentially feel like you need to take one of everything or why else would they be selling them right?. So many of the vitamins and supplements that are sold in stores are synthetic and hard for the body to digest. This means you aren't even using the vitamin to it's full potential. It is important to try to get most of your vitamins and nutrients from the food you eat, of course, but the Standard American Diet (SAD) that we eat today leaves us void in many of the essentials that our body needs. This is where supplements come in. Below are the supplements I use on a daily or almost daily bases.

Spirulina

Spirulina is a type of algae that is rich in protein, vitamins and minerals. It contains B vitamins, beta- carotene, vitamin E, manganese, zinc, copper and iron. I usually will take 2 capsules per day or add a teaspoon of Spirulina powder to my smoothies. I love it because it is packed with nutrients and doesn't taste bad like many other green powders. However, it is important to have high quality Spirulina because it can be contaminated with toxic substances.

Seamoss

I can rave about the benefits of Seamoss forever. Seamoss is a Dr. Sebi approved sea vegetable. It contains minerals, iodine, calcium and other nutrients. I purchase the powder form and take homemade seamoss capsules. You can also get raw seamoss and create a gel with it to use on your face, hair, in tea and baking. Regular intake of seamoss can clear problematic skin and strengthen nails and hair. This is a very nutrient dense food and is safe for pregnant and breastfeeding women. I am currently taking this in double doses to help combat post par tum hair loss and have already seen improvement in a weeks time!

Dr. Ohirra's Probiotic

100% vegetarian, dairy free, gluten free, chemical free, and non GMO, according to Dr. Ohirra'

  • Balance and support your personal unique bacterial fingerprint*

  • Relieve occasional gas and heartburn*

  • Maintain healthy intestinal pH and digestive function*

  • Support the absorption of nutrients from food and other supplements*

  • Support a healthy immune system response*

  • Convenient blister-packed capsules are stable at room temperature

  • Live and viable bacteria – NEVER freeze-dried

Vitamin D3

Vitamin D3 is technically a hormone because it i made by the skin. It helps to promote calcium absorption and bone growth, promotes a healthy immune system, brain and nervous system. Vitamin D is also said to fight depression. When I started taking higher doses (600+ IU) I showed less signs of anxiety and noted feeling "happier" overall. Accuracy of this could be off because of other circumstances, but I would give supplementing with Vitamin D some credit.

ELderberry Tincture

Elderberry has a high amount of antioxidants. It is great for the immune system and fighting off cold and flu viruses.

These are a few of the supplements I take daily. As always make sure to research and try out what works best for you. Always aim for whole food based vitamins and LOOK AT INGREDIENTS.
